Why Discipleship Groups?
Jesus said, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
– Matthew 28-19-20
We exist to reach the world for Jesus, one person at a time. We feel that is best done in small, relational environments, where biblical disciples can be made. Discipleship groups (mainly life groups, men’s & women’s groups) are the primary vehicle by which we carry out the vision and mission of Real Life Ministries.
What’s the difference in the discipleship groups we offer?
Life groups are community based relational environments that meet weekly for the purpose of Biblical discipleship. They are attended by a cross section of life including singles and married couples of all ages. Each group ranges in size from 5 to 18 people. Groups are led by intentional leaders who use RLM approved biblical curriculum and the discipleship process to help bring people closer to Christ. The life group environment provides opportunity for honest, transparent and authentic relationships and the opportunity to grow into spiritually mature disciples of Jesus.
Men’s small groups are ongoing relational environments that meet weekly for the purpose of Biblical discipleship. They are both community based in homes as well as in various other locations. These groups range in size from 3 to 8 men. Men’s small groups provide the opportunity for deep, honest, transparent, accountable relationships as the men address specific areas where spiritual growth is needed in their lives. These groups are led by an intentional leader utilizing various curriculums to help men become spiritually mature disciples and spiritual leaders.
Women’s small groups are ongoing relational environments that meet weekly for the purpose of Biblical discipleship. They are both community based in homes as well as in various other locations. These groups range in size from 3 to 8 women. They provide the opportunity for a deep level of transparency and accountability as women address specific areas where growth is needed in their lives. They are led by an intentional leader utilizing various curriculums to help women become spiritually mature disciples.
Youth and children’s small groups are ongoing relational environments that meet weekly for the purpose of Biblical discipleship. Not only do these groups give children and youth a safe place to grow in their relationships with Jesus, but the small group experiences also lays the foundation for relational discipleship that we hope continues on throughout the life of each child or teen.
We also offer other environments for our people to learn and mature as followers of Jesus.
Support Groups are small groups of 3-10 people that meet for a fixed period of time. People attend support groups with the goal of overcoming a specific area of wounding, illness, addiction, or harmful behavior pattern. These groups provide an opportunity for people to heal in a safe, relational environment, amongst a group of peers with which they have something in common. They meet on campus or in homes, they are gender specific, leader lead and use biblically based curriculums.
Discussion groups are small groups of 3-10 people that meet for a fixed period of time. These groups provide a safe, relational environment for the purpose of biblical discipleship. They primarily take place within classes or large group bible studies and are precluded by an up-front teaching lesson. Discussion groups allow for a time of specific learning relevant to a person’s spiritual need or season of life and are intended to serve as a bridge into either a home group, or a men’s or women’s small group.
