Isaac & Sim Sze Shan Johnson

Background: After college and three years of law enforcement, Isaac Johnson heeded the call to ministry. He attended seminary while interning at Real Life Ministries in the college and then-children’s departments. In November 2005 he joined Bless China International (also known as Fu Hua Guo Ji) at their headquarters in Kunming and has since served in different roles including: head of graphic design, Huaxia Site Coordinator, and information technology research and design coordinator.

During his time there he met Sze Shan, a Singaporean dentist, who was also serving in Kunming. They were married in August 2008.

Isaac presently provides information technology services through AiHua Consulting to a dozen organizations operating in Yunnan, including large organizations such as BCI, Hearts & Hands, Shan Cai, The Wicker Basket, Mekong, Daniel Club, Alpha King Consulting, and many other smaller organizations. His team presently consists of Chinese nationals who are learning linux and unix server implementations and methods of being cost effective and reproducible with locally available equipment and open source software.

Sze Shan, after returning to China in September 2008, has been working with Bless China International leading a dental clinic that provides services to persons with disabilities and fellow field workers.

They are also involved in providing aid via free on-site treatment to children in impoverished migrant worker communities and schools.

Sze Shan and Isaac are multilingual and regularly carry out conversations in a range of English and Chinese dialects including Hokkien, Kunming Hua, Singlish, and Yunnan Hua. Sze Shan also speaks some Cantonese, Malay, and Japanese.

Isaac and Sze Shan believe that the Lord has called many people from many different places (especially local Chinese) to work in Yunnan and that it is important to others succeed in their call regardless of organizational or denominational boundaries. This commitment has led to success stories for groups working with minorities, prostitution, migrant workers and children, HIV/AIDS prevention, micro enterprise development, the disabled, the leprosy affected, drug addicts, children's education, etc.

There are short- and long-term opportunities for individuals who are trained or currently training in dentistry or information technology (there are also work-from-home opportunities for information technology such as designing and building virtual machines). Information is available at the AiHua Information Technology Department blog (it.aihua.asia).
